The Gender Handbooks by Sakshi equip readers with practical tools to recognise, prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) through accessible practices, inclusive policies, and effective redressal mechanisms. In doing so, we aim to make all spaces safe spaces.

Each handbook is designed for educators, advocates, professionals, and community members, offering actionable strategies for building inclusive spaces and fostering a proactive approach to addressing GBV. Emphasising a survivor-centeric approach, the handbooks guide readers in implementing responses that prioritise prevention of violence, survivors’ needs and well-being. Beyond Sakshi’s own programs, we also develop customised gender-handbooks for other organisations, tailored to support their specific goals.

This handbook is a quick-reference guide to The Rakshin Project by Sakshi, developed in collaboration with the Directorate of National Service Scheme (NSS), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It provides an overview of the project’s goals, approach, and key concepts focused on preventing gender-based violence and child sexual abuse in India. Designed for easy understanding and accessibility, this resource supports trainers, volunteers, and youth leaders in becoming Rakshins—Preventors of Harm—by promoting awareness, empathy, and transformative justice within their communities.
